Anjem Choudary returns to spread hate over Leicester chaos after ban was lifted

ISLAMist inciter Anjem Choudary stirred up unrest in riot-stricken Leicester by calling for “Muslim patrols” to fight Hindu gangs.

Choudary – free after being jailed for terrorism offenses in 2016 – launched a website after a public speaking ban on him was lifted last year.

And the fanatical arsonist used his online platform to stoke tensions – by launching a rambling tirade on his website.

At least 16 police officers were injured in days of clashes between hundreds of masked Muslim and Hindu Hinduvta gangs in the East Midlands city.

In a rallying cry on his inflammatory page, the gall dealer, 55, falsely blamed Hindus for causing the chaos.

A ban preventing Choudary from speaking publicly expired last year after he served his five-and-a-half-year sentence for calling for support for Islamic State.

He was imprisoned in 2016 and made a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the US government in 2017.

The police and security services continue to monitor Choudary and other freed terror convicts linked to his al-Muhajiroun network and regard them as a major concern.

Contacted by Sun Online yesterday, Choudary – who has hailed his support for the 911 hijackers and has been linked to terror plots – doubled down on his inflammatory web rant.

The London-based hate preacher told the website: “I am not asking anyone to break the law.”

After a cricket match between India and Pakistan, violent clashes erupted in Leicester in late August when supporters of India chanted allegedly anti-Pakistani slogans.

Pakistan’s supporters chanted back before rival gangs competed in the streets, hurling rockets as police fought to restore order.

The flames of the unrest were fanned by a fake news war online, with both sides accusing the other of causing disorder.

Social media footage shared by both Hindus and Muslims showed groups from both sides on the rampage.

Masked men were filmed banging on people’s windows and tearing down religious decorations in Hindu-majority areas.

Others marched through Muslim areas chanting a religious slogan used by far-right Hindu nationalist groups in India.

Trouble later broke out 34 miles away in Smethwick, Birmingham, when a 200-strong masked mob protested outside a Hindu temple where a controversial speaker was due to appear.

Firecrackers and rockets were hurled at police officers, cars were damaged and a man suspected of possessing a knife was arrested.

But The Sun yesterday revealed how a dispute over a pantyhose factory occupied by teenage girls may have sparked the grisly street battles.

Choudary – whose website is hosted by a California internet company called Cloudflare, despite concerns about its content – predictably blamed Hindus squarely.

He said: “The Hindutva faction is very racist.

“Your ideology goes back to Hitler. It’s very closely related. That’s why people call it fascism.

“They appear to have attacked mosques, elderly people and women after a cricket match a few weeks ago when Hindus came in from outside Leicester.

“We’re not just going to lie down and let them walk all over us.”

Choudary went on to predict bloodshed in Leicester – and crowed that police would be unable to control Muslim anger.

He told the Sun Online: “The police are already holding back and unless the Hindus are checked they will not be able to stop the Muslims from taking revenge.

“At the same time, these Muslims will not return anywhere, they live here, they were born here. Her parents were born here.

“We don’t live in 1960s England with people of the Windrush generation and are first generation Muslims. At that time it was: “Yes sir, no sir”.

“Now a lot of those areas, Leicester, Birmingham, Bradford, are almost majority Muslim areas.

“The police cannot control them and it is already an extremely volatile situation. It’s a powder keg.”
