BNP Paribas Asset Management aims to have at least 90% of its open-ended funds meet the Article 8 or Article 9 criteria by 2025, the French group has announced.

These ambitions were revealed as part of its next three-year strategic plan, covering the years 2022-2025, to help the group become the preferred sustainable wealth manager in Europe.

The plan, released today (July 12), underscores the firm’s goal to both define a clear path to net-zero emissions for its assets under management and to outperform its closest peers in terms of growth.

The blueprint, which aims to build on the previous five-year plan covering the period 2016-2021, aims to focus on five key aspects. These are:

  • Further strengthening of five key investment competencies: These include high-conviction active strategies, private assets and multi-asset investing, as well as emerging markets and liquidity solutions;
  • Leader in sustainability: further expanding its thematic fund range, including ESG ETFs, and further building its sustainability culture in line with its own global sustainability strategy, to be implemented between 2016 and 2021;
  • Use of technology and digital: Investing in artificial intelligence, data and natural language processing to increase ROI while improving the customer experience through a full digitization of the process;
  • Focused sales strategy: Addressing the evolving needs of distributors’ sustainability offerings through accelerated development with wholesale customers;
  • Support savings transformation: Satisfy the younger generation’s desire to save and invest in a more digital and sustainable way, while addressing the challenges of retirement planning and the savings needs of a growing middle class in emerging markets.

According to Sandro Pierri, CEO of BNP Paribas AM, new geopolitical dynamics and evolving regulations, as well as constant technological change, are pushing the wealth management industry to reallocate capital towards a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

‘With a unique offering focused on sustainable investing, BNP Paribas AM has gained significant market share through strong commercial traction and is now well positioned to further accelerate its development,’ the report added.
