In response to Iran’s full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Khatibzadeh described this as an important step towards closer relations with its neighbors and an important impetus for Iran’s Asian-oriented foreign policy.

“We warmly welcome the decision of the SCO to approve full membership of #Iran,” wrote the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, in a tweet on Friday.

“An important step towards stronger relations with our neighbors and an important impetus for our foreign policy towards Asia,” he added.
