TEHERAN – The head of Iran’s Agricultural Mechanization Development Center, Kambiz Abbasi, announced that up to 95 percent of agricultural machinery in Iran is domestically manufactured, IRNA reported on Saturday.

According to Abbasi, the country’s agricultural production has increased by 350 percent as a result of the implementation of the Ministry of Agriculture’s mechanization programs.

Abbasi noted that the Iranian agricultural machinery industry has boomed over the past 10 years thanks to the government’s ratified Comprehensive Agricultural Mechanization Plan, which has invested over 200 trillion rials (about $ 4.76 billion) to date .

One of the ministry’s fundamental approaches to promoting agricultural mechanization in the country in recent years has been international and national exhibitions such as the IFarm agricultural exhibition, he said.

“Through exhibitions like this, we were able to showcase new technologies in the field of agricultural production,” he said.

The official had previously said that the Agricultural Mechanization Development Center plans to increase the country’s agricultural mechanization coefficient to 2.3 horsepower per hectare in the current Iranian calendar year (starting March 21).

Iran’s agricultural mechanization coefficient currently reaches 1.65 horsepower per hectare.

“Our ultimate goal is to bring enough machines into the sector to improve the status and degree of mechanization in the agricultural production process,†Abbasi said in April.

According to the official, the Ministry of Agriculture issues a separate credit line for the mechanization of the agricultural sector every year, so that nine credit lines have been opened for this sector since the Iranian calendar year 1392.

Over the past forty years, since the Islamic Revolution, Iran has seen remarkable improvement in various sectors and agriculture has been one of the areas in which the country has experienced tremendous development.

The implementation of billions in development, research and education projects across the country is an indication of the significant improvements in this sector.
