Iran’s Economy Vice-President Mohsen Rezaei, in a post on his Twitter account on Sunday evening, pointed to Tehran’s carefully calculated effort to lift sanctions as part of a balanced foreign policy.

He detailed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s fruitful visit to Russia, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian’s recent trip to China, Iranian diplomats’ “powerful interaction” with P4+1 countries in Vienna to revitalize the JCPOA and strengthen ties with neighbors and Latin American nations as “part of the 13th government’s grand and pragmatic strategy to end and lift sanctions and pursue a balanced foreign policy.”

In a November 2020 speech, Islamic Revolution leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei urged Iranian officials to focus their efforts on thwarting and overcoming the sanctions rather than seeking their lifting, citing the unsuccessful outcome of years of negotiations to lift them of the sanctions.

Last month, Raisi told Iranian ambassadors and heads of Iran’s diplomatic missions abroad that Iran should focus on neutralizing the sanctions and lifting their effects.

Stressing that his government is doing its best to neutralize the sanctions, the president said serious efforts are underway to develop better relations with neighboring countries.
