MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – A Belarusian shopping center is to be built on the site of the unfinished construction project launched by Iran in Minsk, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said while touring the Stolitsa shopping center in central Minsk, e-mail BelTA found out.

The head of state was informed that there are practically no more spaces for rent in the Stolitsa shopping center – they are all taken, mainly by domestic brands. The assortment of Belarusian manufacturers is huge: clothes and shoes, souvenirs, home textiles, dishes, accessories, food, furniture and much more.

“It’s good that you finally turned this retail store into a Belarusian shopping mall,” the head of state replied. The President gave the order to build a similar retail facility on the site of the unfinished Minsk Magnet construction project at the intersection of Independence Avenue and Kalinovskogo Street. Construction work there started back in 2009. The project was never completed.

“It is necessary to create the same type of retail store along the lines of this mall,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko. “We will focus on promoting Belarusian products. If foreign brands have left the country, let it be. We will sell our own products. So you need to build the same kind of mall there,” the President noted.

The head of state gave the order to start work immediately on the site of the Iranian construction project.

“We should give priority to Belarusian products and manufacturers,” stressed the head of state.
