HIGHLAND PARK — Missouri police have arrested the man believed to be responsible for a serious early-morning assault on a woman in Highland Park nearly a month ago.

Theodomiro Casamiro, 23, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Liberty, Missouri, by Liberty and Kansas City police without incident, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and County Police Commissioner Richard Abrams said Friday.

Police said around 4 a.m. on June 5, an adult woman was approached and physically assaulted as she was walking down Raritan Avenue.

With the help of the Edison Police Department, detectives identified Casamiro as a suspect. He was then working in Edison and living in Highland Park.

Casamiro was charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping. Both are second-degree charges, meaning each faces potential sentences of 5 to 10 years in state prison and fines of up to $150,000.

Casamiro is currently being held at the Clay County Detention Center and is being extradited to New Jersey.
