The senior Omani diplomat, who is in Tehran to swear in the new Iranian president, held a meeting with his outgoing Iranian counterpart on Tuesday.

Albusaidi praised Mohammad Javad Zarif for his efforts to expand Iran-Oman relations during his tenure over the past eight years, saying Oman’s policy is based on improving cooperation with Iran.

He said such an attitude by the Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tarik was a continuation of the policies of the former Sultan Qaboos bin Said and stressed that Muscat would continue to work with the new Iranian government.

He added that Oman would do its utmost to bring the views of regional countries closer together in order to strengthen dialogue.

Zarif, for his part, highlighted Iran and Oman’s efforts to foster mutual cooperation, saying that one of the firm policies of the Islamic Republic and the new government is to develop relations with neighbors.

Ebrahim Raeisi, who was named the 8th President of Iran by the leader of the Islamic Revolution on Tuesday, says cultivating close and friendly relations with neighbors will be the top priority of his government’s foreign policy agenda.
