Special Envoy: Iran is committed to lasting stability in Afghanistan

TEHERAN – Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s special envoy to Afghanistan, met with Mohammad Mohaqeq, chairman of the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan, on Sunday.

According to a statement released by Mohaqeq’s office, the two spoke about the historical, religious and cultural friendship between the two fraternal nations of Iran and Afghanistan, and emphasized Iran’s position on a peaceful solution to the Afghanistan crisis.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran stands for permanent stability and security in Afghanistan and also wants a peaceful solution to the Afghan problems through negotiations between all political parties and ethnic groups in Afghanistan,” said the Iranian special envoy.

Kazemi Qomi added that Iran had friendly relations with all political groups in Afghanistan.

“We are interested in mediating between all parties so that peace and stability and an inclusive government can be formed in our neighboring country Afghanistan with the participation of all movements,” he affirmed.

The Iranian special envoy emphasized that security and stability in Afghanistan are in the interests of the whole world and the region.

For his part, Mohaqeq said Afghanistan is aware of the important role Iran has played in the course of developments and events in the region.

“I assure you that in the current situation we are not in favor of war and violence, and when the basis for inter-Afghan negotiations is in place, we will be ready for a constructive dialogue to solve our country’s problems,” said the chairman of the Islamic Unity Party .
