“The Islamic Republic participates in these negotiations in accordance with the final policy of the leader (the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) which seeks the lifting of all sanctions and an effective review (the lifting of the sanctions) followed with the mutual Action by Iran after the opposing side has taken the appropriate measures, â€said Abolfazl Amouei, Member of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, on Sunday.
As the Iranian government is in a transition phase, the talks have been postponed to a few weeks, according to Amouei.
“Foreign policy in Iran has a well-established large-scale framework, and when it comes to the (Vienna) talks, (Iran) policy will not change,” the legislature said.
“Methods and people may change, but the goals and the framework are set. We do not expect any fundamental changes in the negotiation process under the next government, but strengthening our national position will certainly be our strength, â€he added, reported Press TV.
Amouei then stressed that the Americans should change their position on the JCPOA.
“The (Vienna) talks are taking place between Iran and Group 4 + 1, whose members implement the JCPOA. The American side left the JCPOA in 2018 and announced that they would rejoin the group in 2021. However, since (the US) has failed to honor its commitments, conditions have been set for their return and talks are focused on what action the Americans should take under those conditions set through talks between Iran and Group 4 + 1 “, he added.
“Whether or not the US would accept the terms is a different matter,†noted the MP.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed in comments last week that Tehran’s position on the negotiations to rescue the JCPOA has not changed at all and that the country is still examining whether the sanctions can be lifted completely.
The most recent round of talks to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action began in Vienna in April between Iran and the remaining members of the nuclear deal, namely Great Britain, France, Russia and China and Germany.
The US left the JCPOA in 2018 and re-established the economic sanctions that the agreement had lifted. Tehran retaliated with nuclear clean-up measures, which it is entitled to under Section 36 of the JCPOA.
The current negotiations examine the potential for a revival of the nuclear deal and the likely return of the US to it.
