The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says the US and other great powers are in the region today after several defeats and points to the failure of the sanctions regime against the Islamic Republic as a case in point.
Major General Hossein Salami made the remarks on Monday at the martyrs cemetery in the city of Kerman, the grave of the legendary Iranian counter-terrorism commander General Qassem Soleimani, who was murdered by the United States in early 2020.
Salami enumerated the United States’ political failures in Asia, including the recent humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan two decades after Washington and its allies invaded the country to eliminate the Taliban.
“These days we are seeing the US withdraw and possibly spend its final months in Iraq. We see his failure in the dangerous Lebanon project and in his goals on the Syrian front. We also see the defeat of the enemy’s goals and activities in the sanctions he has imposed on Iran and its political and economic siege, â€said the IRGC chief commander.
In the case of anti-Iranian pressure tactics, Salami said the Iranian people have shown “revolutionary patience” in the face of the enemy’s psychological warfare and are firm against sanctions, cultural invasions and political pressure.
“The enemy surrounded us with economic sanctions to get the people to surrender, but the people stood firm,” he said.
Salami said the United States could not reverse the trend of its defeat by assassinating personalities and commanders with General Soleimani.
“Today the signs of confidence and victory on the front lines of Islam and resistance are clearer than ever, and [on the other hands], we are clearly witnessing … the signs of retreat and defeat of the enemy, â€said the senior commander.
General Soleimani – who led the Quds force of the IRGC – visited Baghdad at the official invitation of the Iraqi government when he visited Baghdad with his Iraqi trench comrade Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of the People’s Mobilization Units, and their other companions.
Both commanders were very popular as they played a key role in eliminating the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the region, particularly Iraq and Syria.
